Leh: In a significant step toward strengthening grassroots democracy in Ladakh, the District Panchayat Officer (DPO), Leh, has officially announced the commencement of the electoral roll revision process for Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) across the district.

The revision will be conducted from July 21 to September 15, 2025, in accordance with directives issued by the Administrative Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, UT Ladakh.

In a communiqué addressed to Tehsildars and Block Development Officers (designated as Assistant Electoral Registration Officers or AEROs), the DPO has directed all concerned officials to begin necessary preparations and ensure the smooth execution of the electoral roll revision in every panchayat under their jurisdiction.

The process will kick off with the display of the draft Panchayat Electoral Roll on July 21, followed by a window for citizens to file claims and objections regarding additions, deletions, corrections, or transpositions in the roll. This window will remain open until August 18.

To make the process more accessible to the public, special voter awareness and facilitation camps will be held at polling booth locations on July 26 and 27.

During these camps, Panchayat Election Booth Officers (PEBOs) and Assembly Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be present with necessary forms and copies of the draft rolls to assist citizens with any queries or corrections.

Following the public feedback, electoral officials will review and dispose of all claims and objections by September 1, with the final Panchayat Electoral Roll for 2025 scheduled for publication on September 15.

The revision of rolls is an essential precursor to the upcoming Panchayat elections and aims to ensure transparency, accuracy, and inclusiveness in the electoral process. The administration has appealed to all eligible citizens, especially first-time voters, to participate actively and ensure their names are correctly listed in the electoral rolls.

The DPO, Leh, has also emphasized coordination between PEBOs, BLOs, and local panchayat authorities to make the exercise seamless, citizen-friendly, and inclusive.
