.LEH, MARCH 27: Marking a significant milestone in India’s cultural and historical legacy, Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, organized a special commemorative program to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the national song, “Vande Mataram.”
The event, characterized by deep patriotic fervor, was jointly organized by the Department of Political Science and the Department of History, under the esteemed patronage of the College Principal, Professor Stanzin Yangdol. The initiative was spearheaded by Assistant Professor Zuhoor Hussain, Head of the Department of Political Science, and Assistant Professor Amjad Khan, Head of the Department of History.
A major highlight of the program was the enthusiastic and unified participation of the student body. Bridging semester divides, the youth took center stage to honor the historic verses. Students Nurboo Zangpo, Dechen Lhamo, Sonam Lhamo, Dasal Dolker, Irfan Khan with others led the gathering in a soulful and resonant recitation of “Vande Mataram,” beautifully reflecting the younger generation’s connection to the nation’s roots.
Adding academic depth to the occasion, AP Zuhoor Hussain delivered an insightful keynote address detailing the historical genesis and enduring significance of the national song. He enlightened the audience on how “Vande Mataram” acted as a powerful catalyst and a unifying cry during India’s freedom struggle. He further urged the students to carry forward its core message of unity, democratic values, and inclusive progress in contemporary times.
The program was warmly attended by faculty members from various departments, staff, and a large gathering of students. It concluded not merely as an academic observance, but as a powerful moment of collective reflection, leaving the EJM College community inspired and reaffirmed in their commitment to the nation.
