Earthquake hits Ladakh, second in a week


LEH: An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 hit the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, as reported by the National Center for Seismology.

The earthquake occurred at 11:48 am and had a depth of 5 km and the exact location of the earthquake was confirmed to be in Ladakh with the coordinates of Latitude: 33.34 and Longitude: 76.84.

In a post on X, NCS said, “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.0, Occurred on 25-02-2024, 11:48:00 IST, Lat: 33.34 & Long: 76.84, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Ladakh, India.”

This is the second earthquake to have hit the Union Territory of Ladakh in last one week.

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit Kargil district in the Union Territory of Ladakh last Monday night but there was no report of any damage.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at 9.21 pm and its epicentre was 148 km north-west of Kargil. The depth of the tremor was 10 km below the surface, it said.
