Kargil: In a step toward fostering self-reliance and empowering students through the concept of “Earn While You Learn,” Government Degree College (GDC) Drass, in collaboration with the Rural Development Department under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) launched an innovative initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing the entrepreneurial potential of college students.

As part of this initiative, an awareness programme was organized at GDC Drass, engaging students from across all semesters.

Abhishek Kumar, District Programme Manager, NRLM, delivered an insightful session on various livelihood opportunities and government schemes designed to empower the youth and promote sustainable development.

The programme encourages students to make use of the existing facilities within the college, particularly the LSDM Food Processing Unit (Pickle Making) and the Department of Botany (Mushroom Cultivation).

Under the guidance of NRLM, students are being organized into Self Help Groups (SHGs), enabling them to mobilize seed capital, procure raw materials, and initiate their own micro-enterprises.

This pioneering model seamlessly integrates academic learning with practical entrepreneurial experience.

The college administration extended heartfelt thanks to ACD Kargil for their invaluable support, and expressed gratitude to Abhishek Kumar and Mehboob for visiting the college and providing detailed insights related to NRLM and its opportunities.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Ayjaz Ahmad Lone from the Department of Urdu and was conducted under the overall supervision of the esteemed Principal, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi. Notably, Er. Mir Ishfaq, the skill trainer at the Pickle Making Lab, was also actively involved in the event, contributing to its success.

The event concluded with remarks from the worthy Principal, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, who encouraged students to actively avail themselves of the opportunities provided by NRLM.
