Kharu, Ladakh: The Sub-Divisional Administration Kharu, under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner Leh, convened a high-level stakeholder meeting to streamline key administrative initiatives and strengthen grassroots governance across the sub-division.

The meeting brought together Sub-Divisional Heads, Nambardars, and key stakeholders, including representatives from the Army and Border Roads Organisation (BRO), to discuss effective implementation of the UT Ladakh administration’s flagship programmes.

Key issues deliberated during the meeting included curbing the growing drug menace, improving sanitation and cleanliness, promoting plantation drives, ensuring water conservation, and strengthening the school mentorship programme. The administration also emphasized enhancing efficiency and transparency in public service delivery through digital platforms.

Special focus was laid on the “Jung-sJabs” initiative—an outreach programme led by the Deputy Commissioner Leh—aimed at delivering doorstep services across all 15 revenue villages of Sub Division Kharu. Feedback from stakeholders was actively sought to further improve its reach and impact.

Addressing the gathering, SDM Kharu Mohd Shabir stressed the critical role of grassroots functionaries in translating administrative vision into action. He urged Nambardars and community stakeholders to actively support developmental and welfare initiatives.

Highlighting drug abuse as a serious concern, the SDM called for collective vigilance and community-driven action. He encouraged village representatives to report suspicious activities promptly and emphasized engaging youth in sports and constructive activities to steer them away from substance abuse.

The meeting also underscored the importance of maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene, with a call to make Ladakh a pollution-free region through sustained public participation. Plantation drives were also highlighted as a key environmental priority.

Additionally, participants were sensitized about the upcoming Census 2027. Officials informed that self-enumeration in the UT of Ladakh will take place from May 17 to May 31, 2026, allowing citizens to submit their details online ahead of enumerators’ visits.

The meeting concluded with a strong call for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to ensure effective governance and holistic development in the region.
