Dr Kotwal impresses upon safety of treasure, security of branches, ATMs

LEH: The third meeting of Union Territory Level Security Committee (UTLSC) for the UT of Ladakh was held today under the chairmanship of Advisor to LG, UT of Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, and under the aegis of Kamal P. Patnaik, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, UT of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Senior officials of Reserve Bank, Police, Airport Authority, Air India, BSNL, and local heads of commercial banks were present in the meeting.

Dr. Kotwal, in his keynote address, impressed upon the safety of treasure, security of bank branches and ATMs. While appreciating RBI’s efforts on this part, he ensured full support from the government authorities regarding these areas. He also enumerated upon importance of digital transactions, terming it as safe system so as to avoid thefts and need for hard cash.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, Regional Director, RBI, stated that main purpose of this meeting was to provide a platform to all stakeholders to discuss the various security related issues involved in currency management so as to ensure that the movement of treasure is done in a secure and seamless manner.

He also highlighted that it was obligatory on part of RBI to ensure the adequate and timely supply of clean notes even to the remotest parts of Ladakh. He further emphasized on the need for detection of fake currency notes and requested all agencies to make coordinated efforts and stay vigilant to curb the menace of fake currency.

The government officials and bankers assured the Chairman that coordinated efforts would be taken to ensure safe and secure banking transactions in Ladakh.
