LEH: Commissioner Secretary for Higher Education in Ladakh, Padma Angmo on Thursday clarified that the provisional degrees are valid for applying for various jobs including the recruitment conducted by the Staff Service Commission (SSC) as well as for taking up further higher studies.
Angmo also appealed to the youth to Ladakh to not believe in the misinformation and rumours being spread by some elements about the Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).
It may be mentioned that 71 students of Ladakh including 34 students enrolled in the session 2014-15 and 37 students enrolled in the academic session 2015-16 in the B Tech. Biotechnology and few other courses in Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur, Rajasthan were not provided the Degree and Migration Certificate.
‘Some elements’ have misinformed the students of Ladakh that these students or others enrolled under PMSSS will be disqualified by SSC on this basis, in the recently conducted recruitment drive for Ladakh, the commissioner secretary told Indus Dispatch.
“This is far from truth. The provisional degrees provided to these students are valid documents and they are as eligible as any other student for SSC jobs, any other jobs or for pursuing higher education on the basis of these provisional degrees,” said Angmo and urged upon the people of Ladakh to not believe in any rumours being spread in this regard.
When asked by the Indus Dispatch reporter, Angmo said that the Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur, Rajasthan was not approved under the PMSSS scheme and that is why only the provisional degrees, and not the final degrees, were given to the students, as the university await decision on the fee of these students from the Ministry of Education.
“We have approached the ministry of education and the university to resolve the matter and get these students the final degrees. Even if Ladakh administration is asked to pay for the students to the university by the ministry of education, we are ready. These 71 students will definitely get their final degrees,” she maintained.
However, in the meanwhile, their provisional degrees stand as a valid document and they will not face any problem in any type of employment or further education, she reassured, and added that she has already written to the university earlier this week for the final degrees.
When asked if any other student from the UT studying in any of the universities under the PMSSS has also faced the problem, the commissioner secretary said that Suresh Gyan Vihar University was one-off case.
