Kargil, Feb 10: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Kargil successfully concluded an eight-day intensive workshop on Social, Emotional and Ethical (SEE) Learning aimed at strengthening holistic teaching practices and promoting emotional resilience among students.
The workshop, organised in two phases under the institute’s winter training initiatives, was designed to equip educators with practical tools to foster compassion, ethical awareness and emotional well-being in classrooms.
The SEE Learning curriculum, an evidence-based educational approach, focuses on developing compassionate individuals and resilient school communities. The sessions emphasised empathy, perspective-taking and self-efficacy, enabling teachers to manage classroom challenges effectively and encourage ethical decision-making among students.
The first phase of the workshop was conducted from February 2 to 5, 2026, and covered 45 elementary and middle-level teachers, introducing them to foundational SEE Learning competencies. The second phase, held from February 6 to 10, 2026, expanded participation to 90 educators, including 10 Heads of Institutions and 80 teachers, primarily from PM Shri Schools. Dual training sessions were organised to ensure wider participation across teaching and administrative staff.
During the workshop, participants engaged in reflective activities, group discussions and practical exercises. The training focused on four key pillars — Self-Awareness, Compassion, Systems Thinking and Ethical Engagement — aimed at helping educators understand emotional behaviour, develop empathy, recognise social interdependence and apply ethical principles in teaching.
Participants expressed appreciation for the programme, highlighting its practical benefits. Teacher Skarma Jungley said the workshop helped in understanding students’ emotional needs and making teaching more effective. Another participant, Zakir Hussain, said the training would help teachers manage classroom conflicts with empathy and create a positive learning environment.
Workshop Coordinator Dr. Willayat Ali described the initiative as a step towards building a strong network of compassionate educators in the district and said integration of SEE Learning would contribute to long-term educational improvement in Kargil.
Principal S.D. Namgyal emphasised the importance of such programmes in today’s fast-paced world, stating that SEE Learning plays a vital role in promoting emotional and ethical development alongside academic growth. He said the workshop aligned with DIET’s winter training objectives and would help teachers create supportive classroom environments.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session where participants were awarded certificates of completion, recognising their commitment to adopting SEE Learning practices. DIET Kargil reaffirmed its commitment to continuous professional development of educators in the region.
