
DIET, Kaivalya Education Foundation launch SEE Learning Program in Kargil
KARGIL: To build a compassionate education system with essence of common humanity, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Kargil in collaboration with the Kaivalya Education Foundation (Piramal Foundation) launched the Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning) project to strengthen the socio-emotional competencies of teachers and education leaders in Kargil district, Union Territory of Ladakh.
The virtual launch event was attended by over 80 participants including key education officers from the Kargil’s education department, along with the senior leadership team and subject matter experts of the Piramal Foundation.
SEE Learning envisages the education of Heart and Mind with awareness and compassion to develop competencies for awareness of self, others and appreciating Interdependence. The SEE Learning project is designed to train a cadre of 70 DIET faculty/HOIs/teachers as Master Trainers to build a compassionate education system.
This comprehensive program aims to foster a holistic approach to education, nurturing the development of the students’ social and emotional competencies alongside academic excellence.
The virtual training will involve a series of workshops, SEEL 101 Course from Emory University US, Weekly Intensive Sessions, Live Action Project (LAP) majorly accounting for the execution of concepts delivered in workshops with certain timelines and targets.
These learning opportunities will be facilitated by subject matter experts from KEF/PF, providing valuable insights and practical strategies that can be implemented in the classroom.
The Key Resource Persons trained by the KEF will further build the capacities of teachers and school leaders in their respective schools and zones.
Speaking at the launch, Zeeshan Hassan, Senior Program Director, Kaivalya Education Foundation said, “SEE Learning is critical for the holistic development of children and youth. Teachers and education leaders play an important role in integrating SEEL into the school curriculum and pedagogy. We are privileged to partner with DIET Kargil to strengthen the socio-emotional competencies of teachers which will have a multiplier effect on the larger student community of the district.”
Anshu Dubey, Senior Program Director, Piramal Foundation and SEE Learning Expert for the SEEL program shared that “SEE Learning will provide educators with a comprehensive framework for the cultivation of social, emotional and ethical competencies; age-specific curricula comprised of easy-to-implement lessons; and a support structure for educator preparation, facilitator certification, and on-going professional development.”
Abdul Qayoom, Principal, DIET Kargil appreciated the Piramal Foundation and KEF for designing this program on SEE Learning for the teachers of Kargil District. “SEE Learning is the foundation for well-being, ethical behavior, and citizenship. This program will equip our teachers with skills and tools to integrate SEEL into teaching and learning,” he said.
The moderator of the launching event, Dr Willayat Ali stated that “the ultimate aim of this training is to help students and develop SEE Learning skills- Attention, Self -awareness, Interpersonal awareness, compassion, Self-regulation, humanity, relationship skills, community and global engagement. The training will help develop a cadre of teacher counsellors for offering mental health and psychosocial support along with ethical development among students and teachers.”
