Leh, March 20: In a major outreach and review exercise, Ashish Kundra is on a three-day tour of the Nyoma Sub-Division, focusing on assessing developmental works and addressing public concerns across the region.
On the first day of the tour, Kundra interacted with local residents at Hemya village, where public delegations raised a range of issues including demand for a separate sub-division, upgradation of healthcare facilities, NABARD-related concerns, and the need for a youth hostel in Leh. Representatives, including Nambardars and members of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, submitted memorandums outlining key demands.
The Chief Secretary also visited PM Shri High School, Chumathang, where concerns over staff shortages, hostel facilities, and infrastructure gaps were highlighted by school authorities. Similar issues were raised during his visit to PM Shri Higher Secondary School in Nyoma, where parents and teachers demanded the introduction of a Commerce stream and improved hostel facilities.
At Nidder, Kundra inspected the Intensive Fodder Development Farm and interacted with Pashmina artisans, distributing incentives such as predator-proof corrals, shearing machines, and charkhas to support livelihoods. Villagers raised issues related to the Jal Jeevan Mission, telecommunication connectivity, and inclusion under the Vibrant Village Programme.
The Chief Secretary further visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), SKUAST-K Nyoma, where he emphasised the need for a pasteurisation plant to boost local dairy production.
Healthcare infrastructure was also reviewed during his inspection of PHC Nyoma, where doctors flagged staff shortages, power supply issues, and infrastructure constraints. Kundra assured timely intervention to address these challenges.
He later chaired a high-level review meeting at the SDM Conference Hall, Nyoma, with officials from various departments, taking stock of ongoing developmental works. Issues such as land settlement, establishment of a degree college, electricity supply, tourism promotion, and allocation of funds under the Changthang Development Package were discussed in detail.
The day concluded with multiple public interactions at the SDM Office and Community Hall in Nyoma, where delegations from various villages reiterated their concerns and sought expedited solutions.
Senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner Leh, Director General of Police Ladakh, Administrative Secretary Education Bhanu Prabha, and other departmental heads accompanied the Chief Secretary during the tour.
The visit underscores the administration’s push for direct public engagement and on-ground assessment to accelerate development in remote regions of Ladakh.
