
Delegations call on LG to discuss setting up of football academy, promotion of winter tourism
Leh: A delegation from Ladakh Football Association led by its General Secretary, Tsering Angmo, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.
Angmo apprised the HLG of the interest shown by J&K Bank in establishing a Football Academy in Ladakh and the subsequent visit of two experts from J&K Bank to examine the feasibility and intricacies of the football academy and also to collaborate with stakeholders in the region. She informed the LG about the proposal shared by J&K Bank to provide stipends to the trainees.
Angmo informed the LG about the suggestions made by them in accommodating the football academy at the Astroturf Football Stadium near Spituk.
She requested LG’s intervention in expediting the process so that the football academy could be set up in Ladakh at the earliest for the benefit of aspiring footballers.
The LG asked the Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, Ravinder Kumar, IAS, to get in touch with officials from J&K Bank to expedite the process of setting up the football academy.
A delegation comprising Lobzang Tsering and Rinchen Norbu, called on the LG at Raj Niwas.
Lobzang informed the LG about the scope of winter tourism in Ladakh, especially for the unemployed youth of Ladakh. He informed that the promotion of winter tourism will not only encourage more youth to take up winter sports such as ice hockey but also boost tourism in the region.
The LG instructed the Secretary to LG, Ravinder Kumar, IAS, to look into their proposal and also discuss the same with the Commissioner Secretary, Tourism Department.
