DDMA issue avalanche warning in Kargil

Kargil: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) here Thursday issued an avalanche warning and advised the general public of Kargil to be cautious.

The people of Kargil were advised not to venture in avalanche prone/hilly areas on February 23, 24, 2023.

“In view of a level-2 warning of an avalanche in Kargil as per the weather bulletin issued by the Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE), Chandigarh, valid from February 23, 2023, to February 24, 2023, and inclement weather conditions, the general public of Kargil district is advised to remain cautious and not to venture out in slopy/hilly areas and avalanche prone areas till the weather improves,” the advisory read.

The DDMA, Kargil has appealed to people of Kargil to be careful and not to park vehicles under rooftops amid melting snow in view of rise in temperatures being reported from different parts of District Kargil.

“In view of the melting of snow on rooftops, the District Administration Kargil has appealed the people to be careful and not to park vehicles under rooftops,” DDMA advisory read.

It has also appealed the general people to be careful while moving out of houses to avoid any casualty.
