KHALTSE, June 4: Reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility and public participation, Deputy Commissioner Sham Kunzes Angmo on Thursday flagged off a cleanliness rally at Khaltse under the theme “Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu,” aimed at promoting sanitation, waste management and climate-conscious community action.
The rally was launched in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Khaltse Mohd. Sharif as part of the ongoing national campaign for a clean and environmentally sustainable future.
Addressing participants, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of collective efforts in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment. She said clean villages contribute not only to improved public health and hygiene but also play a crucial role in environmental conservation and climate resilience.
Earlier, the Block Development Officer, Khaltse, briefed participants about the objectives of the campaign and urged citizens to actively contribute towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
The rally commenced from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sham, and passed through Khaltse Market and adjoining areas, spreading awareness about sanitation, responsible waste disposal and community-led cleanliness initiatives.
A large number of people participated in the drive, including officers and officials, representatives of political parties, Numberdar Khaltse, members of the Merchant Association, Women’s Alliance representatives, villagers, shopkeepers and hostel residents.
Participants also undertook cleanliness activities at various public locations, highlighting the importance of community ownership in maintaining public spaces and protecting the environment.
Officials said the initiative is part of the Administration’s continued efforts to promote cleanliness, environmental awareness and sustainable development across Sham District through active public engagement.
Similar cleanliness drives were also organised in all Panchayats of Block Skurbuchan and Block Singaylalok as per the scheduled programme, extending the campaign’s reach across the district.
