Leh : In a firm directive to ensure accountability and high standards in public works, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), chaired a comprehensive review meeting with officials of various line departments at Dak Bungalow Padum today. He emphasized that strict quality control must be maintained across all ongoing and upcoming developmental projects. Departments were instructed to send work samples to the district laboratory for verification, with a clear warning not to compromise on execution standards.
The meeting was attended by SDM Zanskar, Executive Engineer ZDA/R&B, and officers from departments including PHE, PDD, KREDA, Tourism, Information, Degree College Zanskar, and others.
DC Kargil reviewed the progress of infrastructure-related projects under the District Capex Budget, including roads, buildings, bridges, and non-engineering works. Each department presented updates on expenditures and implementation challenges.
Key administrative matters such as the issuance of domicile, mutation, and property certificates were also discussed. The DC directed the SDM to organize village-level camps to streamline the domicile issuance process for the public.
On power infrastructure, the DC reviewed the status of transmission between Kargil and Zanskar. He also instructed departments to submit a list of revenue-generating assets—like guest houses and cafeterias—which could be leveraged for outsourcing to promote tourism, create employment, and improve service delivery.
Recognizing the role of education, DC Kumar highlighted the importance of counseling and career guidance for high school students. The Tourist Officer Zanskar was directed to ensure all hotels, guest houses, and homestays are registered under new provisions.
Concluding the meeting, the DC assured that department-wise progress would be reviewed in the coming days to ensure timely and effective implementation of all directives.
