Leh: Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, chaired a key meeting to review the Draft Commercial Rooftop Solar Policy, aimed at promoting clean, decentralized energy in the region’s commercial sector.
The proposed policy, part of Ladakh’s Commercial Solar Scheme, outlines support for installing grid-connected rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems, helping businesses transition to sustainable energy solutions.
During the meeting, officials presented key components of the draft, including consumer profiling, eligibility criteria, subsidy structure, energy accounting mechanisms, and implementation strategies.
Dr. Kotwal emphasized creating a transparent and inclusive framework, suggesting a “first come, first served” approach instead of restrictive eligibility norms. He recommended aligning the scheme with national programs like PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, while ensuring only verified and serious commercial consumers are onboarded.
He also raised the importance of using Made-in-India solar components and selecting vendors certified under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for reliability and quality assurance.
Highlighting Ladakh’s commitment to sustainability, Dr. Kotwal urged the department to maintain flexibility in policy design while upholding strict implementation standards, prioritizing functional rooftops, and genuine commercial users.
Senior officials from the Finance Department, Power Development Department, LREDA, KREDA, and trade bodies like ALGHA and AKTTA attended the meeting.
The initiative aligns with Ladakh’s vision of becoming a carbon-neutral region, benefiting both the environment and the economy.
