Leh: Councillor Chushul, Shri Konchok Stanzin, along with a delegation, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, to apprise him of the damages caused by the devastating flash flood on 12 August 2025 in the villages of Maan and Merak under Chushul Constituency.
During the meeting, Shri Stanzin highlighted the extensive loss of properties, including houses, greenhouses, cattle sheds, trench houses, local toilets, camps used for commercial purposes, and irrigated land. He also drew attention to the damages caused to the PMGSY road from Lukung to Khakted, which has become hazardous for small vehicles and bikers due to repeated water and debris flow.
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to the concerns and assured that necessary compensation will be released to the affected families from the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund (UTDRF). He also directed the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, to explore the possibility of extending assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAAY) to the most affected families who have lost their homes.
On the road infrastructure issue, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor assured that the matter will be taken up with the concerned departments for immediate measures to ensure safety by addressing the damaged portions and converting hazardous curveways into culverts.
Councillor Stanzin expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor for his prompt assurance and urged the administration to implement the directions at the earliest to provide relief to the affected people and ensure the safety of travelers visiting the Pangong region.
