Leh: The Culture and Language Welfare Society of Ladakh (CLWSL), led by its President, Khanpo Dr. Sonam Paldan, on Monday met with Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, former Member of Parliament, to express their heartfelt gratitude for his tireless efforts in securing the recognition of Bhoti as a State Official Language of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
In a meeting of CLWSL recently held in Leh, attended by executive members of the Society and alumni of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Dr. Paldan recognised the significant contributions of the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh under Lt. Governor Brig. Dr. BD Mishra, and the LAHDC Leh led by Adv. Tashi Gyalson for their unwavering support in preserving Ladakh’s cultural heritage.
A special mention was also made of Jamyang Tsering Namgyal for his pivotal role in advocating for Bhoti language, especially during his tenure as Member of Parliament.
JTN’s presentation of the Private Member’s Bill in the Lok Sabha on 1st April 2022, alongside other remarkable steps like the inclusion of Bhoti syllabus in CBSE, publishing Bhoti textbooks through the Department of Education, the release of Ladakhi folk songs through the Department of Arts, Culture & Language, and the initiation of Bhoti Language Day on 1st April each year, were all recognized for their lasting impact on the preservation of Ladakh’s linguistic traditions.
The CLWSL affirmed that the recognition of Bhoti as a State Official Language marks a historic achievement in safeguarding Ladakh’s unique linguistic and cultural identity.
The Society remains dedicated to furthering efforts to promote and preserve the Bhoti language for future generations.
