Kargil, Aug. 7: In the wake of recent cloudburst incidents, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS) on Thursday chaired a high-level district review meeting to assess the damage, expedite relief measures and strengthen disaster preparedness across the district.

Reviewing the impact of recent natural calamities, the Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to submit detailed damage assessment reports along with geo-tagged before-and-after photographs to ensure timely processing of relief and compensation under SDRF/NDRF norms.

The DC informed that the District Administration has already released ₹4 lakh ex gratia to the family of a person who lost his life in a recent natural disaster, in accordance with the prescribed relief guidelines.

Rakesh Kumar instructed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to submit consolidated reports on losses in the agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and sheep husbandry sectors, while directing the Chief Education Officer to furnish details of damages to school infrastructure.

Reviewing the emergency response, the DC appreciated the prompt action taken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the Indian Army, particularly during the recent cloudburst incidents in Silmoo and Hardass. He also directed BRO to examine the feasibility of installing a Bailey Bridge at Silmoo to improve connectivity and facilitate swift movement during emergencies.

To further strengthen disaster response, the Deputy Commissioner invited suggestions from all departments to enhance preparedness and resilience against future calamities. Responding to a proposal from the Public Health Engineering Department, he assured that the administration would examine the provision of a trolley-mounted mobile pump for emergency water management.

The DC reiterated that all verified damage reports should be submitted without delay to ensure the speedy release of compensation to affected beneficiaries as per SDRF/NDRF guidelines.

The meeting was attended by senior civil administration officials, officers of the Indian Army, BRO, SDMs, Block Development Officers and representatives of various line departments.
