Leh, June 17: Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the proposed beautification and development works planned under the Stok Model Village Project, aimed at enhancing the village’s infrastructure, aesthetics and tourism appeal.
During the meeting, officials discussed a range of developmental initiatives proposed for Stok village, focusing on improving public infrastructure and creating a better experience for both residents and visitors.
Among the key projects reviewed were the remodelling and upgradation of the existing water storage tank, development of a vehicle pass and tiling works, construction of a welcome gate at the village entrance, upgradation of the existing circular road, and establishment of a cafeteria at the Stok viewpoint to support tourism activities.
The meeting also examined the general cost estimates and project abstracts prepared for the overall beautification and development of the village.
Stressing the importance of planned and sustainable growth, Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra directed officials to prioritize essential civic infrastructure alongside tourism-related projects. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive sewage assessment, creation of designated garbage collection points, effective water body management, and installation of informative signage at strategic locations.
He noted that such measures would not only improve civic amenities for residents but also enhance the overall visitor experience, helping position Stok as a model village and a key tourism destination in Ladakh.
The Chief Secretary underscored the importance of balancing infrastructure development with environmental sustainability to preserve the unique cultural and ecological character of the village.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Shurbir Singh, Administrative Secretary, Rural Development Department, Nidhi Malik, Administrative Secretary, Public Works Department, Bhupesh Chaudhary, Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department, Rudra Goud, and other concerned officials.
