Kargil: In observance of World Hepatitis Day, the Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo held an impactful awareness and education drive today under the global theme “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down.”
The initiative aimed to empower the local community with knowledge about the causes, prevention, and treatment of hepatitis — a silent yet deadly liver disease affecting millions worldwide.
The event saw the participation of CHC’s medical team, including renowned physician Dr. Syed Iftikhar Hussain, supported by paramedical staff, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), and community members from Sankoo and surrounding areas.
While addressing the gathering, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain stressed the critical role of awareness in combating viral hepatitis. He explained the different types of hepatitis, their modes of transmission, and the life-saving importance of early detection, vaccination, and safe health practices.
“Educating the community is key to breaking the stigma around hepatitis. With timely diagnosis and preventive care, we can save countless lives,” he emphasized.
World Hepatitis Day, observed annually on July 28, is a global effort to highlight the urgent need for improved access to testing and treatment. This year’s theme calls for breaking down barriers to healthcare and tackling misinformation and fear that often delay treatment.
The CHC Sankoo program successfully fostered community engagement and helped demystify a major public health issue, marking a significant step in Ladakh’s ongoing efforts toward health education and disease prevention.
