Leh :In a significant development for unemployed youth in Ladakh, the Central Government has assured priority action on recruitment-related issues, particularly the long-pending gazetted posts, during talks held under the High Powered Committee (HPC).
Representing the gazetted aspirants, Phuntsog Targais informed *The Earth News* that the Centre, including senior officials such as the Home Secretary, gave a patient hearing to concerns regarding rising unemployment among educated youth in the Union Territory.
“Over the past six years, there has been no recruitment to gazetted posts in Ladakh, creating widespread uncertainty and frustration among aspirants,” Targais said. “The officials assured us that administrative service recruitment and employment generation would receive focused attention in the coming period.”
Highlighting the ground reality, he added that the prolonged delay in recruitment has left many aspirants nearing their upper age limit, intensifying anxiety within the community. During the meeting, three major demands were presented before the Centre, the foremost being the initiation of recruitment for gazetted administrative posts at the earliest to restore confidence among youth.
KDA leader Asgar Ali Karbalai also corroborated Targais’ statement, noting that the Centre has assured that all major issues raised during the discussions would be addressed promptly.
The HPC meeting has given hope to youth who have been waiting for years for government employment. Observers said that with the Union Territory administration handling subordinate recruitment, the focus on gazetted posts marks a critical step towards resolving long-standing employment concerns in Ladakh.
The Centre’s assurances are expected to alleviate mounting frustration among youth and pave the way for timely action on pending recruitments, offering a much-needed boost to employment opportunities in the region.
