
Celebrating Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2023: Empowering Tribals, Transforming India
KARGIL: The Tribal Research Institute, Kargil Campus of the University of Ladakh celebrated Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2023: Empowering Tribals, Transforming India.
As the nation celebrates the contributions of Bagwan Birsa Munda who fought for tribal rights and India’s struggle for independence, the day long program at the Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh highlighted Birsa Munda’s vision for tribal empowerment, cultural revival and resistance against oppression.
The entire program was anchored and managed by Kanika Sharan, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Kargil Campus, UoL. Welcoming the guests and resource persons, Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan, Coordinator, Tribal Research Institute, UoL extended his heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Tsewang Gyaltsen and Headmaster, Skarma Junglay for their presence.
Following which the guests and the senior faculty members offered a floral tribute to Bagwan Birsa Munda. Next, Dr. Nargis Khatoon gave a detailed power point presentation on the life and achievements of Bagwan Birsa Munda.
Reflecting on the phenomenal contributions of the tribal heroes of Ladakh, Dr. Konchok Paldan gave a presentation on People’s Struggle for Scheduled Tribe Status: Problems and Prospects in Tribal Safeguarding.
Following which Prof. Tsewang Gyaltsen shared his invaluable insights on Brokpa tribe through a presentation on the topic The Possible Threats, Endangering Brokpa Identity. Skarma Junglay, an educationist and expert on Purig tribe gave a detailed presentation on the topic Phukar the Kingdom of Purig.
Before concluding the session, a short documentary film on the life and achievements of Birsa Munda was also screened to the audience. Concluding the program, Tsering Chosdon, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology delivered a formal vote of thanks to the distinguished gathering.
She expressed deep gratitude to Prof. S.K Mehta, Vice-Chancellor, UoL, Madam Kaneez Fatima, Rector, Kargil Campus, UoL, Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan, Coordinator, TRI, Kargil Campus, UoL, faculty members of the Campus, non-teaching staffs and the organizing team.
A special mention of Madam Kaneez Fatima, Rector of the Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, for this program would not have been possible without her constant motivation and unwavering support.
She expressed gratitude to the press and media persons for their extensive coverage of the entire program. The program concluded with light refreshment cum photo session.
