Leh: The Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson inaugurated the 1st CEC Cup Polo Tournament at the historic Shagaran Polo ground at Chushot village in Leh. EC RDD, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee; EC Minority, Ghulam Mehdi; EC Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel; Secretary Sports Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar, Councillors of LAHDC Leh including Councillor Chushot Mirza Hussain and Mumtaz Hussain, BDC Chairperson Chushot, HoDs of District Departments, head of religious organisations, representatives from tourism stakeholders, and various other dignitaries attended the inaugural ceremony today.
While addressing, CEC Gyalson appreciated the enthusiasm of the athletes and the efforts of the organising committee for organising the 1st ever CEC Cup Polo Tournament in Leh during the occasion of the Ladakh Polo Festival, 2022. He appreciated the efforts of Councillor Chushot Mirza Hussain for collectively initiating and continuously following up on the conduct of this tournament. He added that this festival has been initiated to revive the age-old traditions and continuously maintain communal harmony in the region. He further informed that the Hill Council, Leh is taking every possible step to revive traditional Polo in the region and also welcomed feedback and suggestions from the stakeholders for further development of the game in the district.
Secretary Ravinder Kumar and Councillor Chushot Mirza Hussain also addressed the gathering and spoke of the importance of the revival of the traditional game of Polo in the region.
The inaugural match was played between the Army Red Polo Team and the Indus Polo Club Chushot today. There were vibrant traditional cultural performances during the event and stalls with local handicrafts and traditional Ladakhi cuisine during the event.
