Leh: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, met with local entrepreneur Tsewang Zangpo from Shang, who has launched a sustainable initiative by producing eco-friendly clay drinking cups as an alternative to plastic and paper disposables.
Also present during the interaction were Executive Councillors Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Stanzin Chosphel, Ghulam Mehdi, and DC/CEO LAHDC Leh Romil Singh Donk.
Zangpo’s biodegradable clay cups, made without any chemicals or industrial additives, are produced at his small unit in Saboo village. The initiative not only cuts down on plastic usage but also revives Ladakh’s traditional use of earthenware, while supporting local entrepreneurship and skill-based livelihoods.
CEC Tashi Gyalson praised the initiative, calling it “a practical and inspiring step toward sustainable living” and aligned it with LAHDC Leh’s broader environmental goals. He urged all government departments, institutions, and event organisers to adopt these locally made clay cups at official events, promoting eco-friendly habits and supporting local enterprise.
He also assured full support from LAHDC to innovative ventures that blend tradition, sustainability, and livelihood generation.
