Sham: In a meaningful effort to promote sustainable rural livelihoods and revive traditional skills, CEC, Advocate Tashi Gyalson inaugurated a Handloom Weaving Training Centre at Nurla, established with the support of Literacy India under the leadership of Khaltsi Councillor, Lobzang Sherab.
The initiative aims to empower women from the region by equipping them with traditional weaving skills and creating avenues for income generation through self-reliance and community-based enterprise.
Present on the occasion were Councillor of Khaltsi Constituency, Lobzang Sherab; SDM Khaltsi, Mohd Sharif; Project In-charge Literacy India, Konchok Tsewang; members of the local Ama Tsogspa, and women trainees enrolled in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, CEC commended the community-led initiative and noted that it reflects the spirit of the Prime Minister’s ‘Vocal for Local’ mission.
He praised the efforts of the women and Ama Tsogspa for their commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship, and assured that LAHDC Leh, under the Enchanting Ladakh campaign, will provide necessary support to link local artisans to national markets such as Dilli Haat and other urban platforms.
The initiative also reflects the success of ongoing developmental efforts under the leadership of the Khaltsi Councillor Lobzang Sherab who has consistently worked towards addressing local needs and bringing impactful projects to the region.
In his address, he expressed gratitude to Literacy India for their continued support and thanked the CEC for prioritising inclusive development and infrastructure advancement in the Khaltsi region.
Later in the day, CEC also inaugurated the BJP Sham District Office at Khaltsi, where he was warmly received by District President, BJP Sham, Konchok Ishey Stak, Hon’ble Councillor Sh. Lobzang Sherab, along with mandal Presidents, senior party leaders and a large gathering of party karyakartas.
During the interaction, CEC addressed the party workers and highlighted key development milestones achieved across the district—from road connectivity and rural electrification to education and health.
He acknowledged the important role of grassroots workers in ensuring that government initiatives effectively reach the people and called for continued dedication in building a more responsive and people-centric administration.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from grassroots party workers. On the occasion, Councillor Lobzang Sherab spoke about the significant developmental works undertaken in the region under the BJP’s leadership.
District President Konchok Ishey Stak, along with Mandal Presidents, also addressed the gathering, noting key developments and reaffirming the party’s commitment to addressing local issues through active coordination with the administration.
The day’s engagements reflected a governance model rooted in tradition and driven by community participation, reaffirming a shared vision for a self-reliant, inclusive, and empowered Ladakh.
