Kargil, October 10, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon, today reviewed winter preparedness measures along the Zojila road and inspected the progress of work at the Zojila Tunnel.

He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, Councillor Abdul Wahid, SDM Drass, and SHO Drass.

At the Zojila axis, the CEC directed the concerned officer from Project Vijayak to ensure snow clearance and road maintenance up to India Gate throughout the winter season. He further instructed that adequate quantities of soil be accumulated at various locations for use during snowfall to maintain road traction and safety.

Dr. Akhoon also emphasized the need for men and machinery to remain on standby for any emergency deployment during heavy snow conditions. He stated that, with concerted efforts from the District Administration, LAHDC Kargil, and Project Vijayak, every possible measure will be taken to keep the Zojila axis functional to the maximum extent during winter.

Later, the CEC inspected the ongoing works at the Zojila Tunnel. The concerned officers briefed him that approximately one and a half kilometres of excavation work remain, and both tunnel ends are expected to be connected by May or June next year.

The CEC appreciated the dedication of the officers, engineers, technicians, labourers, and workers involved in the project, who continue to provide essential services under harsh climatic conditions.

As a token of appreciation, Dr. Akhoon presented khataks and souvenirs to the officials and officers working at the Zojila Tunnel.
