Kargil: In view of the upcoming Ashura processions, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, conducted an extensive on-ground review of the preparations in Kargil town on Saturday. The visit was aimed at ensuring all necessary facilities are in place for a safe, smooth, and dignified observance of Ashura.
Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Shree Ram R, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imteeaz Kacho, and other senior officials from the district administration.
The CEC visited several medical camps established at key locations including Omni Van Stand, Islamia School Kargil, Old Taxi Stand, Hussaini Park, and Qatilgah Hussaini. He emphasized the importance of ensuring all camps are well-equipped with essential medicines, adequate bedding, medical supplies, and sufficient deployment of healthcare professionals.
Special attention was given to sanitation and biomedical waste management, with Dr. Akhoon directing the concerned departments to ensure timely and hygienic disposal practices. He also inspected a blood donation camp at the Old Taxi Stand and stressed the need for proper donor registration and efficient collection and preservation of blood units.
To ease the discomfort caused by high temperatures during the processions, the CEC proposed installing water sprinklers along the procession route. He directed officials to identify suitable locations for both machine-operated and manual sprinklers.
He further instructed the Municipal Committee Kargil to maintain the cleanliness of public washrooms, especially at high-traffic areas such as Hussaini Park, and asked the Police Department to deploy additional personnel at the Qatilgah Hussaini Medical Camp to ensure smooth functioning and public safety.
During his inspection, Dr. Akhoon also met with representatives from Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Kargil, reassuring them of full support from LAHDC and the District Administration to facilitate the smooth conduct of Ashura commemorations.
Separately, DC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, accompanied by the ADC, SSP, and Executive Engineer R&B, inspected the Circular Road project in Kargil, reviewing progress on road construction and widening works. The team also assessed the status of the under-construction vehicular bridge connecting Shuja Lane with Baghe Khomeini, emphasizing the importance of timely completion to ease traffic flow during public gatherings.
