New Delhi, Feb 5: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, met Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi and submitted key proposals to boost winter and adventure tourism in Kargil.
Dr. Akhoon highlighted Kargil’s untapped tourism potential and sought central support to strengthen infrastructure and generate employment. He stressed the importance of completing the Linkipal Ski Slope Project, calling it vital for promoting winter tourism and positioning Kargil as a major adventure destination.
The CEC also urged early operationalisation of the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) branch in Kargil to promote organised winter sports and skill development for local youth.
Additionally, he proposed organising a Familiarisation (FAM) Tour for tour operators, travel writers, influencers and media professionals to enhance Kargil’s tourism visibility. He further pitched for setting up an Integrated Adventure Sports Centre in Suru Valley to promote safe and sustainable adventure tourism.
Union Minister Shekhawat gave a positive response to the proposals. Dr. Akhoon expressed optimism that central support would help unlock tourism potential and create sustainable livelihood opportunities in Kargil.
