New Delhi, Aug. 7: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on Thursday called on Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, and raised several key issues concerning Kargil and the newly created districts of Ladakh.

During the meeting, Dr. Akhoon strongly pressed for the early operationalisation of Kargil Airport for civil flights, stressing that improved air connectivity is crucial for tourism, trade, emergency services and the overall socio-economic development of the region. He sought the Union Minister’s personal intervention to expedite the process.

The CEC also highlighted the demand for the creation of a new district that was left out during the recent district reorganisation and urged the Centre to consider the proposal at the earliest.

The meeting further focused on strengthening infrastructure, healthcare and education in Kargil and the newly created districts, with Dr. Akhoon seeking enhanced central assistance for the region’s developmental needs.

Responding positively, Dr. Jitendra Singh assured the CEC that the issues raised would be taken up on priority and extended his full support for the region’s development.

Dr. Akhoon thanked the Union Minister for his time and positive response to the concerns placed before him.
