Kargil: In a hands-on visit reflecting both urgency and commitment, Chairman and CEC of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, conducted a detailed inspection of the under-construction Parkachik–Khaus Irrigation Canal Tunnel—a lifeline project aimed at improving irrigation and ensuring water sustainability for the region’s farmers.
Accompanied by departmental engineers and local officials, Dr. Akhoon personally entered the tunnel site, commending the engineers and workers for their dedication. The site team assured that construction is on track and progressing steadily.
“This is more than a project—it’s a promise to our people,” said Dr. Akhoon. “Watching such vital work take shape on the ground is deeply satisfying.”
Addressing flood-related damages to the canal, officials reported that the base work has been completed, and temporary water flow will resume within a week. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for permanent reinforcement has already been submitted and is set to be included in the District CAPEX Budget for 2026–27.
Local residents raised several long-pending issues, including land compensation and demarcation delays. Dr. Akhoon instructed the Executive Engineer SVD Sankoo and Naib Tehsildar Taisuru to resolve the matter promptly. He also responded positively to a demand for a new link road from Imam Jaffar Musallah to Ranthak, directing the preparation of a DPR after land assessment.
At a nearby site facing severe soil erosion, Dr. Akhoon announced ₹5 lakh from the Untied Fund to create an emergency channel for redirecting river flow. He also promised to allocate disaster management funds to address fodder shortages affecting the local population.
In Parkachik’s Tsokjuk Yokma, villagers highlighted a major inconvenience—debris from highway work and a newly constructed wall that blocked traditional livestock paths. Acting immediately, Dr. Akhoon contacted the highway contractor and instructed debris removal. He also urged NHIDCL’s GM to find a practical solution to restore easy access for grazing routes.
Later in the day, Dr. Akhoon inspected the old iron bridge and Sangrah link road, issuing firm instructions for timely and quality-focused completion.
Throughout the visit, villagers expressed gratitude for the administration’s responsive approach. Dr. Akhoon’s outreach reflects a strong focus on grassroots governance, on-the-ground solutions, and ensuring that development reaches even the remotest corners of Kargil.
