Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, inaugurated a three-day Total Knee and Hip Replacement Surgery Camp at the Baqirya Health Care and Research Center (BHC&RC) in collaboration with the Department of Health, LAHDC Kargil.
The camp, running from July 22 to 25, aims to provide specialised orthopaedic surgeries to patients in the region, particularly those unable to afford treatment outside Ladakh.
The event witnessed the presence of Chief Medical Officer Kargil, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Atique Vasudev, Director of the Knee Division at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, and Sheikh Mohammad Sadiq Rajai, Chairman of Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT). Volunteers from BHC&RC, IKMT, senior citizens, and local officials were also in attendance.
Surgeries at the camp are being conducted under the expert supervision of Dr. Atique Vasudev, who has been voluntarily supporting the initiative for several years.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Akhoon lauded BHC&RC for consistently delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Kargil and urged them to continue organizing such initiatives. He reaffirmed LAHDC’s commitment to accessible healthcare, especially for economically disadvantaged residents.
Dr. Oliyat Ali, Vice President of BHC&RC, shared that the first such camp was held in 2019, during which 23 knee and one hip replacement surgeries were performed. This year, around 60 patients have registered for knee surgeries, with several others for hip replacements.
Dr. Oliyat expressed gratitude to Dr. Vasudev for his continued contribution to improving healthcare access in the region.
