CEC inaugurates ‘Eat Right Millet Mela’ in Leh

LEH: To raise awareness about the nutritional value of millets and encourage their regular consumption, the Food Safety, Drugs & Food Control Department Ladakh organised ‘Eat Right Millet Mela’ at Eco Park Leh which was inaugurated by the Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson.

Director Health Services Ladakh, Superintendent District Jail Leh, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, various students, teachers and other distinguished guests were present during the event. During the event, CEC Tashi Gyalson explored various stalls showcasing a wide range of millet-related products and the health advantages of millets.

Addressing the gathering, CEC Gyalson highlighted the significance of millets on the global stage. He informed that the United Nations has designated 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’ to highlight their nutritional importance.

He emphasised the importance of making healthy food choices by including millet in day-to-day diets and further encouraged the attendees to adopt traditional and nutritious foods along with daily staple foods.

Furthermore, CEC Gyalson distributed Food Safety certificates to different schools, business operators, and hoteliers in recognition of their commitment to hygiene and cleanliness standards.

Earlier, a walkathon was also organised to create awareness about millet as a healthy and nutritious food option.
