Kargil: Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, attended the final match of the Ghadeer Premier League Cricket Tournament as Chief Guest at Khree Sultan Choo Stadium, Biamathang.
The tournament, organised by Cricket Association Ghadeer Pishu, saw participation from 32 teams across the district, making it one of the biggest grassroots cricket events in Kargil.
The final match ended in a thrilling finish, with Young Eagle Baroo defeating Valley Boys Suru by seven runs. Young Eagle Baroo set a competitive target of 224 runs, which the Valley Boys chased closely but ultimately fell short.
Dr. Akhoon congratulated the organisers for successfully hosting the tournament and praised the young cricketers for displaying skill and sportsmanship. Emphasising the role of sports in youth development, he reaffirmed LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure in the region.
He announced ₹1 lakh each for the winning and runner-up teams for the purchase of cricket equipment under untied funds of the District Youth Services and Sports Department.
Also present on the occasion were Joint Director/CCF Finance Iftikhar Hussain as Guest of Honour, Councillor Haji Abass as Special Guest, DYSSO Ashiq Hussain, and other dignitaries. During the prize distribution, Young Eagle Baroo received ₹1.80 lakh and a trophy, while Valley Boys Suru were awarded ₹1.20 lakh and a trophy.
Ahmad Ali was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series for his standout performance, receiving ₹5,000 and ₹2,000 respectively.
Councillor Haji Abass extended his congratulations and announced ₹1.5 lakh to Cricket Association Ghadeer Pishu for cricket equipment, along with ₹5,000 each for both finalist teams.
The tournament witnessed an overwhelming response from local spectators, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for cricket and youth engagement in Kargil.
