Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, participated in the Ladakh Health Dialogue organized by the Haemophilia and Health Collective of North. Themed “Haemophilia, Bleeding, Blood and Health,” the event was aimed at enhancing awareness among healthcare providers across the district.
Renowned medical experts, including Dr. K.K. Kaul, Prof. Naresh Gupta, and Dr. Amisha Gupta, delivered insightful presentations on managing haemophilia and related blood disorders. The event witnessed the presence of the Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kargil, doctors, paramedics, technical staff, and nursing students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Akhoon commended the keynote speakers for their invaluable contributions and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizing team for hosting such a crucial awareness initiative in Kargil.
Reaffirming his commitment to healthcare development, Dr. Akhoon highlighted LAHDC Kargil’s continued efforts to improve health infrastructure and ensure quality care at the grassroots level. He shared that specialist doctors — including gynaecologists, surgeons, and physicians — have already been appointed at the District Hospital under the National Health Mission (NHM), significantly benefiting local residents.
Looking ahead, Dr. Akhoon announced that consultant specialists such as urologists, cardiologists, neurologists, and radiologists will be made available at the district hospital by the end of this year. He emphasized that these services will especially help the economically weaker sections, reducing the need to travel to far-off cities for specialized treatment.
He also revealed that preparations are underway for the installation of an MRI machine at the District Hospital Kargil, further strengthening diagnostic facilities in the region.
“As a doctor myself, I feel both a personal and professional responsibility to contribute to improving healthcare services,” said Dr. Akhoon. He added that efforts are ongoing to collaborate with various stakeholders and tap into Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for further health-focused initiatives in the district.
Keynote speaker Dr. K.K. Kaul praised Dr. Akhoon’s commitment and compassionate leadership, especially his dedication to underserved communities. He acknowledged the CEC’s significant role in advancing healthcare for the people of Kargil.
The event, held on the solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, concluded with heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War, honoring their courage and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
