CEC, DC attend Krishi Mela, Organic Fair-2023

Leh: Chairman/ CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson attended the Krishi Mela/Organic Fair-2023 along with EC RDD, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee; EC Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel; EC Horticulture, Ghulam Mehdi; DC Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve which was organised by the Department of Agriculture, Leh at Eco Park, Leh Saturday.

Councillors of LAHDC Leh; Chief Agricultural Officer, Leh; Chief Horticulture Officer, Leh; District officers from concerned department; representatives from Sikkim State Organic Certification Agency (SSOCA); officers from SKUAST-K, Leh, KVK Leh, DIHAR-DRDO, Leh and progressive farmers from different villages attended the Krishi Mela.

CEC Gyalson focused on the vision of Mission Organic aimed at making Ladakh an organic state which will have colloquial positive impact on the health, lifestyle, environment and enhanced income of the farmers.

He added that around 75 villages in Leh district are organically certified and soon other villages will be added to that list by adopting organic farming practices, thereby achieving the goal of 100% organic certification of the district. In this regard, he lauded the concerted efforts of EC Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel and the departments in promoting the adoption of organic farming practices.

He also highlighted the initiatives of Hill Council in assisting and supporting the farmers by providing seeds, farming equipment, tools, Ladakh Greenhouse Project, etc on subsidized rates and shared the commitment towards making Ladakh an environmentally sustainable and organic state.

He also assured to provide necessary support to the farmers in the development of agriculture and horticulture sector of Ladakh.

Several progressive farmers from different villages of the district were awarded appreciation certificates for their dedication and effort in farming.

Earlier, the dignitaries visited the stalls displaying an array of locally produced and harvested vegetables and fruits, flowers along with food products and agricultural tools and machineries put by the progressive farmers, SHGs and agri- entrepreneurs and others.
