Brig Mishra takes oath as Ladakh LG

LEH: Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) took oath as the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh on Sunday morning.

Mishra was administered the oath of office by Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, the chief justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh high court at Raj Niwas in Leh, around 10:40 am.

At the outset of the proceedings, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Umang Narula read out the warrant of appointment of Brig Mishra as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

Following this, Brig Mishra was administered the oath as the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh by Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K & Ladakh, Justice N. Kotiswar Singh.

Both the hill councils chiefs, entire Ladakh administration, top brass of Police and Army along with prominent members of Ladakhi civil society were present on the occasion.

Brigadier Mishra was appointed as Ladakh’s new Lieutenant Governor on February 12, when President Droupadi Murmu reshuffled and appointed new governors in as many as 13 states and union territories. According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique, incumbent Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh R K Mathur’s resignation was accepted by the President who appointed Mishra, a former brigadier of the Indian Army, and presently Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

Mathur, a former defence secretary, was appointed as the first Lt Governor of Ladakh after Jammu and Kashmir was stripped of its statehood and divided into two union territories in August 2019 and served as the LG for over three years.
