Leh: In a moment of pride for Wanla village and the greater Ladakh region, a new book titled “Wanla – History and Culture” was officially launched during the inaugural Wanla Lonpo Festival.
Authored by Sonam Angchok, a dedicated farmer and native of Wanla, the book offers a rich documentation of the village’s history, cultural traditions, oral narratives, and architectural heritage.
The launch ceremony took place on July 10, 2025, with Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, formally unveiling the book.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, local leaders, and an enthusiastic gathering of villagers, youth, and cultural enthusiasts — all united in celebrating Wanla’s vibrant past and shared vision for the future.
Sonam Angchok’s work stands out for its authenticity and grounded perspective. As a farmer deeply rooted in his community, Angchok offers insights often missing from conventional academic writings. His book is a tribute to the ancestral legacy of Wanla and a vital contribution to preserving the unique cultural fabric of the Sham region.
The Wanla Lonpo Festival, where the launch was held, marks a significant cultural milestone for the village, celebrating its heritage through music, dance, storytelling, and community engagement.
