A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders visited the historic border village of Hunderman Brok in Kargil district to interact with local residents and understand their concerns and aspirations.
The delegation was led by BJP Ladakh President Shri Tashi Khachu and included former CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson; BJP Ladakh Vice President and former Chairman JKLC, Haji Anayat Ali; BJP District President Kargil, Assadullah Munshi; Mahila Morcha President Rinchen Dolkar; Media Coordinator Rinchen Angmo; BJYM District President Mohd Hassanain Rocky; Mandal President Shakar Chiktan; Kacho Shamim; and Mohd Askary, State Executive Member, BJYM Ladakh.
During the visit, the leaders interacted with villagers and discussed various developmental issues, public welfare concerns, and opportunities for strengthening infrastructure and tourism in the region. The delegation appreciated the resilience and patriotism of the people living in this strategically important border area.
Hunderman Brok holds a unique place in the history of the Kargil region. Located near the Line of Control (LoC), it is often referred to as the “Ghost Village of Kargil” due to the abandoned stone houses that remain as silent witnesses to past conflicts. Following the 1947 India-Pakistan War, the village came under Pakistani control. However, during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, the area was recaptured by the Indian Army and became part of India.
The village’s history reflects the impact of border conflicts on local communities, as many families were divided across the border and several residents were compelled to relocate due to security concerns and shelling. Despite these challenges, Hunderman Brok continues to stand as a symbol of resilience, heritage, and national pride.
The BJP delegation reaffirmed its commitment to the development of border villages and emphasized the importance of preserving the historical and cultural significance of Hunderman Brok while ensuring better opportunities and facilities for its residents.
