New Delhi: A delegation of BJP UT Ladakh, led by State President Khachu Tashi, along with State Vice President Tonyot Tashi and State General Secretary P.T. Kunzang, met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the national capital on Tuesday.
The delegation urged the Finance Minister to restore and re-delegate the financial powers of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, which were withdrawn under Order No. 656-F of 2025. They also sought restoration of District CAPEX and Special Development Package (SDP) funds to clear pending liabilities and ensure uninterrupted development across the Union Territory.
Highlighting Ladakh’s unique challenges—including extreme remoteness, difficult terrain, a short 4–5 month working season and limited winter connectivity—the leaders stressed the need for timely approvals and empowered financial authority to avoid developmental delays.
The Finance Minister gave the delegation a patient and considerate hearing and assured that the concerns raised would be examined on priority. She reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to the development and welfare of Ladakh.
BJP Ladakh expressed gratitude to Sitharaman for her continued support and sensitivity towards the region’s needs.
