Kargil, May 12: Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Tuesday announced that two-way traffic movement between Minamarg and Sonamarg on the Srinagar-Kargil highway will resume from May 14, 2026, bringing major relief to commuters and transporters.
According to officials, the decision was finalized after detailed discussions between the CEC and the Divisional Commissioner, UT Ladakh, regarding traffic modalities on the crucial Srinagar-Kargil route.
During the deliberations, the Divisional Commissioner, UT Ladakh coordinated with the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to streamline traffic management and ensure smooth vehicular movement on the highway stretch.
The CEC also held discussions with the Deputy Commissioner Drass to ensure effective coordination and implementation of arrangements at the ground level.
The restoration of two-way traffic is expected to significantly ease travel difficulties for passengers, traders, transporters, and daily commuters using the strategically important Srinagar-Kargil highway.
