Leh: In a significant step toward strengthening mother tongue-based education in Ladakh, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, concluded a 10-day workshop on the re-editing and reframing of Bhoti textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 with a vibrant felicitation ceremony today.
The workshop, held from July 9 to 19, 2025, was conducted under the guidance of Chief Education Officer and Principal DIET Leh, Deldan Angmo, following the directions of the Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh.
Bringing together 24 passionate Bhoti language teachers from government schools across Leh district, the initiative focused on enhancing the textbooks’ linguistic quality, cultural authenticity, and alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Each day of the workshop saw dedicated sessions of collaborative editing, review, and redesign—aimed at making Bhoti textbooks not only more educational but also more relatable for Ladakhi children.
To honour the tireless efforts of these educators, a Thanksgiving Felicitation Ceremony was held at DIET Leh, where the teachers were presented with traditional white scarves (Khataks) and mementos as a mark of appreciation.
The room brimmed with a sense of pride and purpose as teachers, mentors, and education officers reflected on the importance of preserving Ladakh’s linguistic heritage through education.
The ceremony also paid homage to the Bhoti Textbook Committee for Classes 9 to 12, particularly acknowledging the visionary work of the late Dr. Jamyang Gyaltsen and Venerable Thupstan Paldan.
Their invaluable contributions laid the foundation for culturally rooted and academically sound Bhoti textbooks at the higher secondary level.
“This is more than just textbook editing—it’s about giving Ladakhi children the power to learn in their own language, rooted in their own culture,” said one of the participating teachers.
The event not only marked the successful conclusion of the workshop but also reaffirmed the region’s collective resolve to nurture and strengthen Bhoti language education for future generations.
