JAMMU: With infrastructure being uplifted across the Union Territory, the under construction Bhagwati Nagar-Canal head fly over project worth Rs 153 crores will ease traffic mess in the city of temples.
Being constructed under Smart City Project, the fly over connecting Canal Head to Bhagwati Nagar is being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL).
“The four lane flyover being constructed at the cost of Rs 153 crores will begin from Bhagwati Nagat bridge rotary and connect with Canal Head,” an official said.
He added that the project is being supervised and executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL)–the central agency carrying out the work of widening the Jammu-Akhnoor road, which is in its final stage.
“About 50 kanals of land has come up under this project and the work in being done on war-footing to meet the deadline,” said an official adding that the Canal Head-Bhagwati Nagar Chowk will solve the traffic problem in the surrounding areas including Science College Road, Talab Tillo Road, Akhnoor Road.
“As per the DPR, the width of the flyover will be 5.5 meters at both the ends and there was no need to acquire the property on the right side and the road will be constructed under the flyover,” he added.
There were around 40 trees on the right side and 51 on the left along the Canal-Bhagwati Nagar road but after pruning, the space was vacated and similarly, the poles along the roadside have been shifted accordingly.
“The flyover will not only benefit the residents but also settle the problem of traffic and the project will bring major relief to the residents of the city,” he stated.
“The construction work of fly over is in full swing and as of now, we are facing hardships like traffic jams but we are sure that once this project will be dedicated to the public, it will ease out traffic chaos and also become one of the major lifeline for the people travelling on Jammu-Poonch highway as it will directly connect to the flyover at Canal Head,” Paminder Gupta, a local running a grocery store at Bhagwati Nagar said.
