One of the biggest event of the union territory, the Ladakh Marathon is now back after a hiatus of two years due to the Covid pandemic

The 9th edition of Ladakh Marathon starts from Sept 8 to Sept 11 where in a number of international, national & local runners are participating in it.

Ladakh Marathon is promoted and organised by Rimo Expeditions, an eco-adventure company that pioneered adventure sports in Ladakh. Chewang Motup Goba, its co-founder was instrumental in supporting the growth of ice hockey in Ladakh. After that sport acquired sufficient robustness, Motup had been looking for a new project. That is how in September 2012, Rimo Expeditions staged its first Ladakh Marathon. Today it is a composite of six sub events offering challenges from the easy 5 km Run Ladakh for Fun to 122 km Silk Route Ultra. Event participation has grown from few hundreds in the 1st edition in 2012 to thousands in the 8th edition in 2019.

Sharing that Ladakh Marathon is an event scaling higher the prestige of Ladakh, Secretary, Sports, Ravinder Kumar advised all the concerned departments and stakeholders to work in a collaborative and coordinated manner to make the event a successful one.

Secretary Ravinder instructed Deputy Commissioner, Leh to ensure that the traffic advisories, contingency plan of emergency evacuation and due process are in place well in advance along with other directions/ meetings required to ensure smooth conduct of the event.

Informing that the Ladakh Marathon is growing bigger with each passing year with a higher number of participants, Chhewang Motup stressed the need of augmenting the resources to cater for the needs, specifically in terms of increased medical support, traffic regulation, volunteers, toilet facilities, lighting and enhanced security at the Ladakh Marathon Expo held at NDS stadium and during the whole event.
