Leh: A successful NPSS training-cum-awareness program was organized at the Chief Agriculture Office in Leh by the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Srinagar, in collaboration with CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, and Experimental Research & Development, Palam, Chuchot Yakma, Leh.

The program aimed to equip agriculture officials from Leh District with in-depth knowledge of the NPSS (National Pest Surveillance System) Mobile App and its corresponding web portal, focusing on its practical application in modern pest surveillance and management.

The training session was led by Dr. Haroon Rashid Hakla, Assistant Plant Protection Officer (PP) from CIPMC Srinagar, operating under the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.

Dr. Hakla delivered a comprehensive presentation on the features and benefits of the NPSS mobile application, with a particular emphasis on its utility for farmers in early pest detection and response.

The session included a live demonstration of pest identification and image uploading via the app, allowing participants to gain valuable hands-on experience.

Thinles Dawa, Joint Director of Agriculture, UT Ladakh, praised the initiative, highlighting the app’s potential to transform pest management practices and support timely and effective crop protection measures across the region.

Zabir Ahmad from CSIR-IIIM Leh expressed appreciation for the app’s intuitive interface and real-world applications.

He thanks to the Wajahat Ullah Project Assistant and Chamba Dolma, Intern of CSIR-IIIM Leh for organizing the event.

He extended a vote of thanks on behalf of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM Jammu, and Er. Abdul Rahim, Chief Scientist and Head of the Srinagar Branch of CSIR-IIIM Jammu.

He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to benefit the farming community in Ladakh.

The event represented a major step forward in leveraging digital technology to enhance agricultural productivity and promote sustainable pest management practices in the region.
