Zanskar: A week-long awareness program on “Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health, STI Prevention, Menstrual Health and Hygiene” concluded Saturday in Padum, after being successfully conducted across multiple regions of Zanskar.
The awareness campaign was organized by Choskul Tsogspa Zanskar in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services, UT Ladakh, and Badlaav Foundation.
The program, held from May 19 to 24, covered various locations including Lungnak, Stoth, Sham, and Jungkhor, aiming to reach adolescents in remote areas and equip them with crucial health-related knowledge.
The final session of the campaign, held in Padum, saw enthusiastic participation from students of various schools across Zanskar.
The event was graced by Passang Lawang, President of the Zanskar Buddhist Association, as the Chief Guest. The keynote address was delivered by Mrs. Stanzin Dolma, Counsellor at SNM Hospital Leh.
Dolma spoke at length about the dangers of substance abuse, the importance of preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and maintaining proper menstrual health and hygiene.
Her open and empathetic discussion on adolescent reproductive health encouraged active participation from students, who took the opportunity to ask questions and clear doubts.
Dignitaries including the President of the Youth Wing Zanskar, President of the Ex-Servicemen Association, and the Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Padum were also present, reflecting the strong community support for youth-focused educational initiatives.
As a gesture of appreciation, President of Choskul Tsogspa Zanskar thanked Mrs. Stanzin Dolma for her vital contribution to the program and presented her with an Appreciation Certificate.
He also extended gratitude to Dr. Thinles, Director of Health Services, UT Ladakh, for facilitating and supporting this significant initiative.
The successful conclusion of the awareness program marks a meaningful step toward empowering the youth of Zanskar with knowledge, confidence, and a healthier future.
