Kargil: On the occasion of National Teachers’ Day, the All Teachers Welfare Association Sodh (ATWAS), Kargil, organized an Inter-School Speech, Qasida/Naat, and Drawing Competition for students of Secondary, Middle, and Primary levels at Government Higher Secondary School, Yurbaltaq.
The event was conducted in two sessions — a Competition Session in the morning and a Felicitation & Award Ceremony in the evening.
The programme was graced by Executive Councillor for Education, LAHDC Kargil, Mr. Zakir Hussain, as the Chief Guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho; Councillor Silmo, Feroz Ahmad Khan; Councillor Poyen, Mohd. Amin; and Councillor Yurbaltaq, Manzoor-ul-Hussain attended as Guests of Honour.
Other dignitaries present included the Zonal Education Planning Officer, Executive Engineers from the Mechanical and Irrigation & Flood Control departments, and Principals from various schools. Senior members of ATWAS, escort teachers from participating schools, and retired teachers also joined the celebrations.
Students from 22 schools, ranging from Mangmorer (Aqchamal) to Garkone, participated enthusiastically in the competitions. The morning session witnessed a vibrant atmosphere filled with healthy competition, creativity, and youthful energy. The jury panel included Assistant Professor of Urdu, GDC-Kargil, Jaweed Jalib Amini; Senior Librarian, GDC-Kargil, Mohd. Ali Khan; Lecturer, DIET-Kargil, Kacho Nissar Ali Khan; former Zonal Education Officer, Syed Abul Hassan; and former Lecturer, Haji Mohd.
In his address, Chief Guest Mr. Zakir Hussain appreciated ATWAS for promoting talent and instilling a spirit of respect and learning among students. He also highlighted the positive developments being made in Government Schools in Kargil. The Guests of Honour and Special Guests praised the students’ enthusiasm and the organizers’ efforts. Many speakers emphasized the critical role of teachers in shaping society, improving the education system, and fostering a supportive learning environment in the Sodh region.
Winners of the competitions were felicitated with awards and certificates, while participation certificates were distributed to all students to encourage them. Special recognitions were also given to the Headmaster of Government Middle School, Darchiks, for his exceptional contribution to education, and to the UT-level topper in JEE Mains from Aqchamal. The Principals of the three participating Higher Secondary Schools were honoured with mementos.
The President of ATWAS, Mohd. Hussain, presented a memorandum highlighting key issues related to teachers, students, and the educational development of the Sodh region. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vice President of ATWAS, Zakir Hussain.
