Garkone (Ladakh), June 1: Jubilant scenes unfolded in Ladakh’s Aryan Valley as thousands of residents from Dha, Darchik and Garkone villages gathered at Changra in Garkone to celebrate the historic unification of the region under the newly constituted Sham District.
The grand event, led by BJP Ladakh President Tashi Gyaltson Khachu and former Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyaltson, witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, BJP leaders, party workers and community representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Tashi Gyaltson Khachu described the creation of seven new districts in Ladakh as a landmark administrative reform aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating development. He said the BJP-led Central Government, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, had fulfilled a long-pending aspiration of the people of Aryan Valley by bringing the culturally unique region under a single administrative district.
Former CEC Advocate Tashi Gyaltson termed the occasion a “historic reunion” after nearly 46 years, recalling that the Aryan Valley had been administratively divided in 1979. He emphasized that reunification under Sham District would help preserve the valley’s distinct cultural identity while ensuring focused development and better governance.
The leaders highlighted Ladakh’s transformation since 2014, citing major milestones such as Union Territory status, administrative reforms and infrastructure development. They reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the unique heritage of Aryan Valley while addressing the developmental aspirations of its residents.
During the event, local representatives submitted a memorandum to BJP leaders seeking enhanced infrastructure, public services and developmental projects for the region. Nominated Councillor Regzin Gurmet thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP leadership for facilitating the inclusion of Aryan Valley within Sham District.
The celebration also witnessed a political boost for the BJP, with several residents from Garkone and Dha villages formally joining the party in the presence of senior leaders.
