Leh: Army (Red) lifted the 1st CEC Cup Polo Tournament, 2022 by defeating Animal Husbandry Department at the Shagaran Polo-Ground in Chushot today.
His Eminence Thuksey Rinpoche presided over the closing ceremony as the chief guest whereas Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, Dy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillors, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Stanzin Chosphel & Ghulam Mehdi; Secretary Sports Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar, and DC Leh, Shrikant Suse were the guests of honour.
Councillors, LAHDC Leh, including Councillor Chushot, Mirza Hussain; Councillor Phyang Tundup Nurboo; BDC Chairperson Chushot, DYSSO, CAHO Leh and other guests attended the event.
In his address, HE Thuksey Rinpoche congratulated the winner and runner-up teams. Appreciating the teams for maintaining sporting spirit throughout the tournament, he stressed the need to maintain communal harmony in Ladakh.
CEC Tashi Gyalson congratulated the participants for showing true sportsmanship spirit throughout the game. Highlighting the popularity of the game in the Union Territory, he stated that the sportspersons from Ladakh have great potential in bringing glorybto the region in different sports at both national and international level. He also spoke of promoting tourism in the area through such initiatives and reviving age-old traditions like the game of Polo in the region.
Dy Chairman Angchuk, in his address, lauded the tireless efforts of the organising committee in smoothly conducting the tournament. He hoped that the tournament would be conducted in a grander manner in the future.
Prizes were distributed among the winners and players along with officials were felicitated by the chief guest. Councillor Chushot Mirza Hussain gave the vote of thanks.
The tournament has been organised by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Animal Husbandry, and Youth Services & Sports, Leh in collaboration with Indus Chushot Polo Club, Leh.
