LEH, October 22 — The Indian Army has inaugurated and handed over a Veterinary Hospital at Punguk in Leh district under Operation Sadbhavana, an initiative aimed at fostering goodwill and community development in border areas. The facility will provide much-needed healthcare services for livestock, a key component of the local economy in the high-altitude villages of Ladakh.
The hospital is expected to play a crucial role in supporting nomadic and pastoral communities that rely heavily on animal husbandry for sustenance. With limited access to veterinary services in remote regions, the new centre will help improve livestock productivity and contribute to economic stability for families dependent on sheep, yak, and goat rearing.
Officials of the Fire and Fury Corps, which oversees Operation Sadbhavana projects, said the initiative reflects the Army’s continued commitment to improving the quality of life for residents of Ladakh’s frontier villages, alongside its core role in ensuring border security and operational readiness.
