Leh: In a significant development for the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Apex Body Leh and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) convened a joint meeting on 1st September 2025.
The meeting ended with a unanimous resolution on key demands concerning the region’s future governance and constitutional safeguards.
The two bodies decided that in the upcoming dialogue with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Statehood and inclusion of constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule will be placed as the principal agenda.
In addition, the resolution emphasized that the Ministry of Home Affairs should not interfere in determining the composition of the Apex Body Leh and KDA’s High Powered Committee or its Sub-Committee, affirming their demand for internal autonomy.
Representatives of both bodies underlined that these measures are crucial to ensure local participation, preserve cultural identity, and strengthen democratic governance in Ladakh.
